Foreign brands propelling Indian entrepreneurs

Levi’s, KFC, or Mc Donald’s are some of the international brands that have made successful entry to the Indian soil. Today’s youth and old generations have adopted such brands into their daily lifestyles. Be it, wearing a pair of levi’s jeans or having sumptuous burgers at KFC. Till few years back, franchise was almost an unknown domain to the people. But the concept of franchising has gained a huge popularity particularly with the young/upcoming entrepreneurs.

In the year 2009 we witnessed a tremendous growth in the franchise industry, but its still in its nascent stage as compared to other countries.

According to me, the popularity of this concept can be attributed mainly to the foreign brands who took inroads to the Indian market. The brands made the Indian entrepreneurs aware of the innumerable benefits of franchising. The foreign brands made inroads mainly in 1990’s when the market reopened after imposing certain restrictions on foreign brands. The apparel and food & beverage sectors were the pioneers to mark their presence across India.  Apart from these sectors there are other well-known franchises relating to softdrinks, ice-cream parlours and restaurants which include Pepsi, Coke, Baskin Robbins,  Subway, McDonalds, Geoffry’s, Taco Bell, Pizza Hut, Pizza Piazza, Dominos Pizza,  O’Brian’s Sandwich Bar, Ruby Tuesday etc.

The overseas brands prefer entering the Indian market through master franchise route, which has also become a very popular concept. The foreign brands have propelled the Indian businessmen to expand through this route and gain maximum profits.
